Dental emergencies can happen without warning — a sudden toothache, a broken tooth, or an injury that requires immediate attention. At Park Center Family Dentistry, we understand how stressful these situations can be, and we make every effort to see emergency patients as quickly as possible. Dr. Tran and our team are equipped to diagnose the problem, relieve your pain, and provide the treatment you need to protect your oral health.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency, please call our Laurel, MD office right away. The sooner we can evaluate your condition, the more options we may have to save your tooth and prevent further complications.

Tooth Extractions

While our goal is always to preserve your natural teeth, there are situations where extraction is the best course of action. Teeth that are severely decayed, fractured below the gumline, or causing crowding may need to be removed to protect your overall oral health. Dr. Tran performs both simple and surgical extractions with a gentle approach and thorough anesthesia to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. After your extraction, we will discuss replacement options such as dental implants or bridges to restore your smile and prevent the shifting of surrounding teeth.

Root Canal Therapy

A root canal becomes necessary when the inner pulp of a tooth — the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels — becomes infected or inflamed. This can result from deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the same tooth, or a crack or chip. Symptoms often include severe toothache, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, and swelling around the affected tooth. During root canal therapy, Dr. Tran carefully removes the infected pulp, cleans and disinfects the interior of the tooth, and seals it to prevent future infection. In most cases, a crown is placed afterward to protect and strengthen the treated tooth. Contrary to common misconceptions, modern root canal treatment is comfortable and highly effective at saving teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted.

Cracked and Broken Teeth

A cracked or broken tooth requires prompt attention to prevent further damage and reduce the risk of infection. Depending on the severity, Dr. Tran may recommend bonding, a crown, or in more complex cases, root canal therapy followed by a restoration. If you have broken a piece of your tooth, try to save the fragment and bring it with you to your appointment. Rinse your mouth gently with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling until you can be seen.
